SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
1st Edge combines software engineering with Agile development methodology to ensure quality and accuracy while maintaining the schedule. We have broad software engineering experience in multiple domains. Our recent software efforts feature web-based user interfaces, distributed service architectures, container-based deployment, and database backends. We develop software with cyber threats in mind and follow defensive programming best practices.
DEEP LEARNING
Generative AI has captured the world’s attention with the ability to generate images of fantasy worlds from text. The application of Generative AI goes well beyond fantasy and deepfakes. Leveraging remote sensing products, 1st Edge has developed an ensemble of generative & traditional AI models to inform the warfighter of potential dangers, provide up-to-date situational awareness, and help navigate difficult terrain. Employing an ensemble of AI techniques, our deep learning solutions provide high confidence products across multiple environments and domains.
DECISION AIDS
Next Generation decision aids are being actively developed by 1st Edge to inform the warfighter. 1st Edge developed a cognitive framework from our object detection, generative AI, optimizations, and intelligent agent capabilities to support tough decisions with short timelines. Our decision aid capability provides multiple courses of action so the commander can make consequential decisions at a glance.
AIR & MISSILE DEFENSE SYSTEMS
1st Edge has extensive experience in a variety of weapon and sensor systems, both tactical and strategic. From in-theater air defense planning to global HWIL strategic system tests, we have a solid understanding of the capabilities, operations, and interfaces of these defensive systems.
OBJECT DETECTION & CLASSIFICATION
Object detection has long been a target domain in AI. Detecting cars, people, and objects within still and video images is the first step in most AI tutorials. Beyond cars, ships, and airplanes, we’ve developed the ability to detect and classify signals within Radio Frequencies (RF), and threat objects and scenes within single and multi-band imagery. Our ensemble approach combines multiple AI technologies to provide explainable detection and classification capabilities. This technology not only characterizes scenes, but also explains why conclusions are reached.
GEOSPATIAL MAPPING
Satellite and airborne imagery are the cornerstones of situational awareness for the warfighter. 1st Edge has developed generative mapping capabilities by leveraging products from multiple providers in both the air and space domain. When paired with our segmentation and navigation models, the generated maps provide crucial situational awareness where traditional mapping techniques are stale or denied.
DATA VISUALIZATION
Large data sets, which are typical for our users, can obscure vital information. Data Visualization is an essential part of the user experience for many 1st Edge solutions. We provide the end-user with multiple viewing options, including charts, dashboards, GIS Mapping, and 3D Globe displays, and animation. Our UX department employs multiple methods to ensure data presentations are intuitive and easy to understand.
DATA SOLUTIONS
The size and complexity of data is often unwieldy and unstructured. 1st Edge approaches data management by implementing appropriately constrained schemas to guarantee data consistency and integrity. We can then be confident in data processing and transfer. 1st Edge employs relational and/or graph database solutions based on domain.

The 1st Edge pragmatic approach applies the science of AI and other new technologies to deliver near-term, engineering solutions to Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and other government agency partners. The approach captures subject matter expertise in automated software systems, allowing a broader set of requirements to be satisfied through computer analysis. These automated systems can process tremendous amounts of data in a fraction of the time compared to manual approaches. Our AI solutions are resilient, scalable across problem domains, and ensure operational agility by providing a mechanism for analysts and Warfighters to affect change after deployment.
